Paul H. Lahann papers, 1914-1975.

Correspondence and other papers of Paul H. Lahann, a Chicago public school teacher and administrator for 44 years (retired in 1965). The collection is chiefly correspondence with administrators regarding his proposals for maintaining a consistent supply of teachers for the public schools, as the first director of the Bureau of Teacher Personnel (1953-1960) and then as director of Teacher Recruitment and Practice Teaching. Also present is Lahann's correspondence with school officials and politicians at critical moments in his rise through the school bureaucracy, including his 1937 placement on the principals' list and his 1953 application for an Assistant Superintendancy. One file contains correspondence, certificates, newsclippings, awards, programs, and greeting cards about Lahann's 1974 induction into the City of Chicago Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.
